Best dog-friendly beaches for off and mid-season visits

La plage de Crève-Coeur

Located near in the Bernerie-en-Retz, La plage de Crève-Coeur is our favorite spot for dog owners during the off and mid seasons. The beach is best visited at mid-tide, when the sand stretches wide enough for dogs to run freely without getting too mucky. From September 15th until June 10th, dogs are allowed off-leash here, giving them plenty of space to explore and play.

  • Best time to visit: Mid-tide for maximum space

  • Rules: Dogs allowed off-leash from Sept 15 to June 10

  • Why it’s great: Large open space, safe for dogs to run and swim

  • Keep in mind: Dogs must be under owner's control and you are responsible for picking up after your dog

La Baule Beach for a day trip

La Baule is a popular destination for a day trip with your dog, especially in the shoulder seasons. Dogs are allowed on the beach from September 15th to June 15th, but they must be kept on a leash. A pro tip is to visit in the evenings when the beach is less crowded. Many locals tend to overlook off-leash dogs during this time, but it’s important to keep your dog under control.

  • Best time to visit: Evenings in off-season for relaxed atmosphere

  • Rules: On leash from Sept 15 to June 15

  • Pro tip: Off-leash tolerated in evenings if dog is well controlled

These beaches offer a great way to enjoy the coast without the summer crowds, and they are perfect for dog owners looking for freedom and space for their pets.

To note: France is a dog-friendly country and your pooch can join you in most shops and restaurants before or after your day in La Baule.
